Limit formulas

A limit is the value f approaches — not necessarily f(a), which may be undefined.

Two-sided

limx→a f(x) = L means f(x) can be kept arbitrarily close to L by taking x close to a, x ≠ a.

One-sided

Left: x→a⁻. Right: x→a⁺. Both must equal L for the two-sided limit to exist.

Infinity

x→∞ is “as x grows without bound.” Type inf. Vertical asymptotes often show as infinite one-sided limits.
